Good for making books.
Good for making books.
I thought this app would help me edit pages in my existing ebook, but I feel it won’t improve my workflow. If I would use it, I would have to do things differently, and I feel I would be stuck using the app: it would be hard to export my book for use with the apps I’m currently using. I wish I could have tried it out before paying for it.
I tried to adjust font size. Apparently there are only 2 font sizes available; way too small and way too big. There is no Undo or revert option that I could find. It ruined all of the formatting I spent days on and I couldn’t undo
I tried creating a children’s book project using this app on my iPad Pro. It repeatedly flashed and deleted all my pages after I spent HOURS importing and laying out artwork and text. That’s too bad, because I liked using it. But time is money, and I lost five hours of my life playing with this app today. To say that I am irritated would be an understatement.
I need two specific fonts for this book, and when i go to custom text file, nothing happens for me to import the fonts. Is there a way to use system fonts? Is there a way to import pages from Pages or Word?
This is a powerful book generation app, but recently, some features are not working. I have created roughdrafts for books, and after hitting delete to remove them, the app freezes up. I tried reinstalling the app, but the same problem persisted. Other than that, this app works well for book generation with interactive media content which is my goal as a creative arts minister and book writer.
What are the size guidelines for the books? Is it in inches, centimeters, or millimeters? Would have emailed customer service but can’t figure out how to sync my email. Other than that this app is amazing!
It is a good tool!It could be perfect if you can improve the appearance of the UI elements,it is not clear in iPad!
Usually I love this app but the last book I tried to generate as pdf will stop at 50 percent.
This app is AWESOME. It’s super easy to use. It looks great. It easily shares between Dropbox, email, and a bunch of other stuff. The customer service is GREAT. If you have any problem and you email them they fix it very quickly. I highly suggest buying this app. And this isn’t even a fake review. I use it EVERY. SINGLE. DAY.
This changes the format of any uploaded book
Ok I’m definitely logging and leaving out of Wattpad! Just look at this amazing app! I bet with more updates, this app will one day be the next future book writing club! Thank you for this app don’t delete it please?! Or I will cry!!
So, this app is amazing. It’s simplistic, and has a beautiful design. Loads of different things that help when writing. But two problems I have is that 1) when writing a paragraph, as soon as I have typed enough to have to scroll down, whatever I type doesn't show up, until I exit the paragraph screen and go back in. Please fix this soon. 2) I have trouble "selecting" entire pages at a time on my iPhone to have Siri read it to me. Anytime I try to select most of a page for my phone to speak it to me, it highlights the entire page, or the entire book. Please fix these. I love this app. But it's seriously messing with my ability to finish my books.
This is a nice creator for ebook. I can make my own ebooks, even picture books. I have so much fun with this app.
This app is a dream .... Does it all and more .... Edit pics, resize ,create and edit cover .... You can not go wrong ,with this one ... I wish i could give more than 5 stars ... So when you read this review add another 5 For me it is a 10 stars app
One of the very few apps that every update has been an improvement. Thanks for not revamping the look of the app. Thanks for the continued adding of features! I look forward to each update!
While this app is good for informal writing, it seems to be missing a major feature that any formal piece should have. YOU CAN'T INDENT. Even if you use multiple spaces to indent, the extra spaces delete when you save the text.
This is my favorite app. It's very flexible and easy to use. This update is amazing. I highly recommend it. Their tech support is the best. Super turn around time and response.
I bought this app a couple of weeks ago to use for an assignment in my textual studies class to create a scholarly edition of a book. While it does not do everything that I want in a book creator app, some of the functions were a pleasant surprise. What I found particularly useful was ability to create links to words or phrase, such as the pop-up footnote function, links to webpages, or links to the Glossary function. The ability to create and store explanatory notes through the Footnotes and Glossary functions was an immense help. I would love to see them create a multi-link option where you can create a variety of links for a single word or phrase. Currently you can choose to link text to only one function at a time. If you create a link to a footnote, you cannot also link the same text to a glossary note, or a weblink, or some other link function. Perhaps a menu approach which would allow for multiple different links for a single text link would work...
Absolutely Awesome And Organized!
So far this is a great app with lots of potential. Would be awesome if you could export to mobi format for kindle.
I asked for a different format and optimized for iOS 8 thank you sooooooooooo much! Five Stars!
This app never crashes, the words all fit, and its just great!
This app is comprehensive and easy to use. The tools are intuitive. The developer is great as he has quickly addressed any questions and has consistently worked to improve the product.
CBB does it all. No other ePub builder comes close to the functionality, ease of use, and reliability of this product. Import, export, (those who complained of not being able to import were not following copyright laws, the dev shouldn't have to state that you may not plagiarize) From ePub to paperback, from the classroom to the soccer stands, this is the app to use if you express in words, pics, vids, auds, etc. The developer himself? Three months ago I gently requested a search function, knowing that particular bit of coding is more challenging than most realize; why it wasn't in the original release. It is in the newest update, and works beautifully. And that is but ONE example of his customer support. I wish every developer were as helpful as Tiger Ng. Download CBB. You will pat yourself on the back. And then publish your novel :)
When trying to add read aloud recording app keeps crashing. Even after fresh install
This is my first time writing a book and now I have 2! Putting this together was extremely easy using this app! I had several, problems initially but after reporting these problems to the developer, his response was same day and very helpful. There were a few issues promised in the next version but all the others were quickly resolved once I learned my way around the app. I would recommend this app to anyone with a desire to put together an ebook. Great Job!
I can't believe it's claiming to be the most advanced ePub editor when you can't even import or rename a pre existing ePub from the iBooks that are already on your iPhone or iPad!! All you can do is import ePubs from Dropbox, a Google drive, FTP server, or an URL! FOR PETE'S SAKE, the blasted file is already on the device! Who in their right mind would force their customers to build a web server, or an FTP server, or make them go do research to figure out how to setup a Google drive or a Dropbox??? My opinion is that's just asinine. I looked at all the reviews to see if anybody had this kind of problem prior to purchase. There was none, so I bought, and got screwed! Well now here's a review to keep others from getting suckered like I did! Hope this helps others keep from wasting their money.
I have written my first book completely using CBB. With CCB, I was able to create a compelling how-to book with pictures and videos. I am now submitting my book to the iBookstore. Thanks Tiger!
that isn't for parents who want to make a 'book' of their family vacation to send to grandma. This is a serious tool. Mr. Ng- PLEASE continue to update and support your product! Thanks!
Good for making books.
This is a fine app for real publishing. Not that watered down, mail to friends or read in iBook. If you're serious about getting a book to iTunes, this the way to go. With the latest update, there are some preset templates. Use your creative ways and stay with the original. Edit photos,(uses Avairy- another great app- built in). Preview the book in iBooks just like those you download. The real thing. Do it now.
I couldn't even get started because I can't even edit my chapter titles. It would be helpful if there were a tutorial
The App download the book, but change the name and is impossible to fix.
The workflow is very different from any other application I've ever used for writing, but it didn't take long to adapt to the CBB way of doing things. It's a little rough around the edges, but it's hard to complain. The number of features makes up for the drawbacks (mostly - there are a couple things that *need* to be fixed). I assume everything will improve with time (please continue development - don't abandon the project the way so many app developers do - what you have here is a great product with a ton of potential to be even better). There are three things, though, that I think ought to be addressed before anything else: 1. When editing an element (such as a paragraph), it would be nice if the text view automatically receives focus. Right now, there's just the "Tap on the area below to begin typing" title (I forget the exact words, but that's close enough). When I select an element (paragraph, title, whatever), it's because I want to edit it. It might sound like a petty complaint, but it seems like most "elements" are subclasses of some base, abstract "element" that *always* represents an editable item. I don't know if I'm making sense right now - it's late and I forgot to eat because I've been having such a good time getting to know CBB. Point being, if I tap on, for example, a "paragraph" element, when the paragraph appears, I want to be able to start editing it immediately. I don't want to tap on the text field. It's an unnecessary step in the process that gets very old very quickly. 2. After I've selected an element to edit and tapped the text field to do my editing, the view is automatically resized to accommodate the iPad's soft keyboard. That's fine, but I use a bluetooth keyboard for anything that requires a significant amount of typing (like the review I'm writing). I use several apps on a regular basis that require a lot of typing, and they all handle external keyboards properly (when I turn on the bluetooth keyboard, the soft keyboard disappears, and the text views resize to take advantage of the newly freed space). CBB needs to do the same thing. It's sort of frustrating to be typing in a text view that only takes up half the screen (the bottom half is just empty - black). Given that CBB is an app designed specifically for writing, it's surprising that it isn't "aware" of external keyboards. I can't imagine writing even a short story using the soft keyboard (no offense to Apple - the soft keyboard is fine for filling out fields here and there, but it's not a comfortable way to write a few thousand words in a row). 3. The cover editing is clunky. I tried using some drawing apps to get around the problem (designing the cover using a drawing app, exporting to a png, then importing the png in CBB). Despite using canvas sizes that correspond to the iPad's screen ratio, I haven't been able to get a cover to look right. You have the basic tools in place - resizing image views, moving them around, being able to push an image to the back or bring an image to the front - it's tricky to develop that stuff, so kudos there. What bothers me is that you're *so close* to having a system that works - the features are good, but the overall experience lacks finesse. If you can take what you have and just refine it, the cover design aspect of CBB would be adequate. Anyway... although I've spent a lot of time writing about the bits of the app I'm not happy with, I want to be clear: I took the time to write this because I think the app is mostly great. Being able to assemble epub's on an iOS device is something I've wanted to be able to do for ages. For the most part, CBB is snazzy. It's worth more than what I paid (at the time I'm writing this, I think I paid $4 or something). I'd have given the exact same review even if the app were three or four times more expensive. I'm very happy with it - I'm glad I bought it, and for anybody who's reading this and wondering if it's worth it: it is. It's a brilliant product for the price of a latte. Or a box of granola bars. Or a tub of ice-cream. But CBB doesn't get cold, stale, or melt. We're used to apps being a dollar or two, so anything over a couple bucks seems expensive. If you take a step back and remember that desktop applications used to cost at least forty bucks a pop (with many costing far more), something like this is a no-brainer. Generally speaking, if you decide to wait until the app is "perfect", you'll be waiting a long time. I figured - and I was right - that there would be some clunky bits here and there, but with a little more work, I think CBB will be fantastic. However, if you don't buy it, the devs don't make the money they need to continue working on it. In other words, if you're on the fence, just buy it. It's great as it is, and every dollar we spend is another dollar they can put toward perfecting this thing. For purely selfish reasons, I encourage all of you to invest in CBB so it can become a five-star app. Think about it: your money could fund the bluetooth keyboard problem I mentioned a few thousand words ago. What kind of person would pass up the opportunity to bring us all one step closer to the app being everything I want it to be? A bad person. That's what kind. Are you that kind of person? If you don't buy the app, then, yes: you are that kind of person. Don't be that kind of person. I consider every sale of CBB to be a down payment on my happiness, and that's more important than your latte.
Note; Title disappear, font format and CR are gone, some Book settings reset when I Copy Book. And I can not copy or move elements from book to book. -------------------- No document size could change. PDF import is poor. Pages document import is not useful.
...to use. I found myself doing productive work with illustrations and various text formats within minutes. A little unwieldy to type in a lot of text, but the app easily accepts text, markdown, and HTML pasted inputs as well.
Program crashes every time I try and record audio. Won't let me select my own audio files.
I'm new to creating ebooks, but this certainly beats working with HTML and trying to eliminate errors from Word Docs. BEST WAY to throw a previously written document into this app and turn it into a viable ePub book is to import via google Drive. You get pre-made paragraphs that way. Cover creator works pretty flawlessly. I'm impressed that it showed right up in iBooks. I am the type of person to write books that are several hundred pages, not 24 page kids' books full of pictures. If you are that type, there are other apps that may fill your needs.
WYSIWYG please......let us arrange content "more flexibility and no one could ever beat you with all the features you have not even iBooks author please I beg you.........
Tiger Ng has a great suite of ebook creation/sharing apps. Love this app. Easy to use. What I especially love is that you can import files (audio, video, music) from Dropbox. You can also export in a variety of ways. This does nearly everything that Apple's desktop software does but you don't need the desktop! Well worth the price.
If you are looking for a book creating tool and you don't have access to iBooks Author you have found the answer. This could be use for creating books as well as a aggregation tool or after action reviews. The ability to saves what you create in dropbox AWESOME!! Creative Book Builder will also let students read with their ears! If I could give it more starts I would!
This program is easy to use. The best ebook creator available. Most ebook programs will require that the format be perfect ( some with no information as to what caused an error) after several attempts maybe a book will be created. I have never had a book fail to be created the first time with this program. I indicated a problem with the tex size locked in some readers, this was repaired with a new release within a week. That is customer support!!!
Cannot import using any of the listed functions or formats -- from Google Docs is unavailable, from Dropbox does not work. It doesn't matter what format you use, it will not import text. Importing a PDF imports as images, which is pointless. It seems to think having location services enabled is required for embedding a picture or video when there is no technical reason for that being necessary. Since installing, Safari will automatically redirect itself to pornographic websites without any prompt or warning; this has happened from multiple, reputable websites and only since installing this app. The dev of this app has got some persistent but easy to see through SEO. If you search for "Creative Book Builder review" there isn't a single legitimate review -- it's all regurgitated press release. This needs to be taken off the app store, ASAP. Stay away.
I love writing and I have always looked for an app for creating books, but never found any. When I found this app I fell in love with it.This app is the best way to create books without hurting the trees. I suggest it to many people who would love to become authors and love writing. Like me. :)
I am very impressed by the quality and usefulness of this app. It does what it claims to do and it does it really well. It is possible to create multimedia ePub files. Content can be organized and manipulated easily. Keep up the good work.
I really like this app. It is very professional looking. I do have some suggestions. I would like to be able to put a book cover in front of the chapters. Also, an undo button would be nice.
This is a great App for education. We want our students to be able to make writing an authentic experience, e.g. by writing for an audience, going through the publishing process of writing drafts, editing, proofreading, and finally sharing the published book with others. This app meets all these needs. However, I do agree with another reviewer's comments that the app should allow writers to incorporate images from Photos and the Camera App.
I couldn't believe that the app doesn't allow you to take your own snapshots from within the app. That's just basic functionality in every app I've used except this one. It pretty much makes the app useless for the purpose I bought it.
I added a title (no font selection available) and a picture (no adjustment of the picture available). I wanted the text over the picture in a certain spot, but that was also not available. Not much creativity there yet. I wanted to add video, but it did not show up to select from. Then to test the system, I selected publish and it hung up at processing. I tried again, nothing. I sent an email to the developer... waiting for a response.
